ICUEE 2011 Update: The Place For Jobsite Safety Demonstrations

ICUEE 2011 has expanded the safety demonstrations that will be at the show: Just added is a “lineman’s demo” from the Kentucky Lineman Training Center, and the iP Safety Arena at ICUEE has increased the number and scope of its demos. The new Lift Safety Zone from the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) will focus on the group’s yet-to-be-released digger derrick operator practical exam and existing articulating crane operator and rigger practical exams.

ICUEE, the International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition, will be held October 4-6, 2011 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky, with more than one million net square feet of the latest innovations and technology in equipment, products and services; hands-on working-equipment demonstrations; and in-depth industry education programs.

Demonstrations to foster safe working habits

In the new “lineman’s demo,” students from the Lineman Training Center at Somerset Community College will be at the show October 6 to demonstrate safety procedures and discuss the center. This workforce development initiative prepares apprentice-level students for electrical industry employment. It has one of the most expansive indoor training facilities and comprehensive curriculums in the nation.

The iP Safety Arena at ICUEE 2011 will offer four different safety demonstrations related to the co-located iP Safety Conference and Expo:

  • Excavation Training – helping attendees gain a greater understanding of hazardous conditions working below ground and in confined spaces
  • Live-Line Demonstration – highlighting the dangers of working with high voltages
  • Chain Saw Safety – demonstrating safety and applications, including importance of proper PPE, reactive forces and hazard recognition, plus pole saw techniques and new innovations
  • Fall Protection – Featuring climbing products in action with the opportunity to ask questions for safety solutions

The NCCCO Lift Safety Zone covers 10,000 square feet with a focus on training. NCCCO is dedicated to promoting safer working practices for those who work with and around cranes and related equipment. In addition to the practical exam demonstrations for riggers and digger derrick and articulating crane operators, NCCCO will provide details about all its certification programs for mobile, tower, overhead and articulating crane operators, signalpersons and riggers. NCCCO will also offer written and recertification exam administrations for those seeking to become certified or renew their certifications.

“Workplace safety is so important, and these demos help attendees more easily understand proper techniques and procedures to use while on the jobsite,” stated Melissa Magestro, ICUEE show director.

The New Metso C120 Jaw Combines Crushing Efficiency, Versatility And Safety

: Metso C120 jaw crusher novelty

Metso’s Mining and Construction Technology introduces the Metso C120 jaw crusher – the 13th member of the field-proven C-series range of crushers. Metso’s C120 combines reliability, crushing efficiency and versatility in both stationary and mobile applications with safety and ease of use.

According to the manufacturer  the C120 is engineered for reliable operation and long life, resulting in high, constant crushing capacity and uptime.

“When starting the C120 project, we listened closely to our customers and collected field data from a number of sites. Based on that, we decided to design the crusher cavity and kinematics first. As a result, Metso can now offer aggregates producers, large-scale contractors and mining companies a new crusher that meets all the standards set for any demanding application,” says Ilkka Somero, Metso’s Product manager for jaw crushers.

Productivity through long stroke and fixed jaw die

Productivity of the C120 is achieved through  several new design elements. The crusher novelty features a long and aggressively directed stroke, and a fixed jaw die longer than previously seen in this crusher size class. The C120 has a large feed opening of 34 inches x 47 inches and an aggressive cavity cross section, securing a high performance and reduction ratio.

In terms of cavity volume and crusher weight, the C120 is positioned between the existing Metso C116 and C125 jaw crusher models.

Easy to install

The C120 is easy to install, due to its compact design, and includes for example an optional integrated motor bed and guards. Being

The optional, robust composite flywheel guards allow quick and safe access to the service points

well-balanced, the C120 is quick, easy and cost-efficient to install through rubber mounting pads underneath the crusher mounting brackets. No separate horizontal supports are needed. The crusher can be mounted in multiple ways to ensure an easy fit onto an existing or a new steel structure.

For a quick, easy and safe setting adjustment, it is possible to select either a mechanical or hydraulic setting adjustment system. For jaw dies, several cavity options are available. Depending on the customer’s preference, it is possible to use either single- or two-piece jaw dies.

Safety the highest priority

Safety is the highest priority for Metso when designing a new crusher. The C120 features optional robust composite flywheel guards that allow quick and safe access to all service points. The standard delivery includes lifting tools for jaw dies, cheek plates and toggle plate, contributing to operational safety when changing wear parts.

The Metso C120’s nominal power is 200 HP  @ 230 rpm, closed side setting between 2 ¾-inch  – 8 inches. The operational weight is 57,200 lbs, excluding options.
