Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems Names Richard Beyer Vice President Of Engineering, Research And Developmet

Newly Established Position Will Strengthen R&D Network and Shape Global Product Strategy

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC continues to strengthen the breadth of its senior management team with the addition of the new position of vice president of engineering, research and development.

Richard Beyer, who previously had been the Bendix director of technical sales, will serve in the new position, which will focus on strengthening the company’s research and development network and shaping product development strategy through customer dialogue.

“The creation of this new role will enhance our global research and development coordination, and help us better deliver value and effective solutions to the commercial vehicle market,” said Joe McAleese, Bendix president and CEO. “Richard’s extensive engineering knowledge and industry experience have provided him a valuable perspective on global technology that will help us further align our priorities and apply the right resources to meet our engineering and R&D objectives to deliver results.”

As director of technical sales, Beyer worked with the original equipment and technical sales force team, the controls group, and Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake to drive a cohesive strategy to customers.

In his new position, Beyer will help engage with both Bendix and its customers in the development and enhancement of their technology road maps, using those insights to drive a long-term technology development strategy and create a strengthened global R&D network. Working in tandem with product line and business unit leadership at Bendix and its parent company, Munich, Germany-based Knorr-Bremse, he will help drive an even stronger global approach for product development and technology advancement for future vehicle and system architecture. He will also serve as a key resource for the Bendix government relations team in its legislative and regulatory dialogues by providing insight and long-term perspective regarding the technological impact of potential federal and state regulatory actions.

“Our past is paved with a legacy of innovative engineering and high-impact customer solutions. Our future success will come not only from the continuation of that engineering expertise, but also from increased global collaboration and effective coordination of our product strategies and our future technology vision. Richard will help us lead the way,” McAleese said.

Prior to joining Bendix, Beyer worked for the heavy-duty vehicle division at Bosch, which merged its electronic brake control activities with the Knorr-Bremse Group in 1999. He also held various leadership engineering and technical sales positions at AVL North America, Chrysler, and GM.

Beyer has over 20 years of experience in commercial vehicle air brake components and systems. He joined Bendix in 2001 as manager of technical sales for antilock braking systems.  A resident of Westlake, Ohio, Beyer has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Lawrence Institute of Technology, based in Southfield, Mich., and is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
