The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) West Michigan Chapter has recognized Elzinga & Volkers with the 2012 Construction Safety Award of Excellence. This award reinforces Elzinga & Volkers’ success at making safety a priority for the company’s work force of more than 120 employees, and coincides with the company reaching an impressive safety milestone last month of 2,000 consecutive days worked without any lost-time injuries.

Investing in employee safety and health has saved the company money and allowed the company to grow and hire additional workers over the past two years. In 2012, the company experienced a 30 percent increase in backlog while also enjoying a dramatic 40 percent reduction in workers’ compensation insurance premiums from 2009 to 2012.
Judges representing different occupations associated with the construction industry and safety evaluated each submission and unanimously agreed that Elzinga & Volkers’ submission was the “best of the best” in content and in presentation. Elzinga & Volkers’ impressive safety program has been implemented for 67 years and is continually being refined to meet the latest standards. The company is dedicated to safety awareness and training and has infused its entire culture with a passion for safe work practices.
Additionally, Elzinga & Volkers has been recognized by National ABC with the Platinum Level STEP Safety Award each of the past three years. This is the highest level award given for safety training practices by the ABC.
