Extend Transportation Authorization Contact Your Representative TODAY
The House of Representatives on Tuesday (March 1, 2011) will consider legislation to extend the nation’s surface transportation programs through September 30, 2011.
Please contact your Representative today and ask him or her to support legislation to extend highway and transit authorization to keep vital transportation dollars flowing to the states.
Background
SAFETEA-LU authorization, current legislation authorizing the nation’s surface transportation programs, expired on September 30, 2009. Since then, transportation systems have been operating under a series of short-term extensions.
The current extension expires March 4, 2011. Without another extension, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will not be able to collect and distribute fuel and other tax user fees that fund transportation improvements in all 50 states.
Action Requested Please contact your Representative today and ask him or her to support passage of H.R. 662, The Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2011, legislation that will extend transportation authorization through September 2011 to keep much-needed transportation funds flowing to the states. The House of Representatives is expected to vote on this legislation on Tuesday, March 1, so please write your message today.
