ICUEE 2011 has expanded the safety demonstrations that will be at the show: Just added is a “lineman’s demo” from the Kentucky Lineman Training Center, and the iP Safety Arena at ICUEE has increased the number and scope of its demos. The new Lift Safety Zone from the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) will focus on the group’s yet-to-be-released digger derrick operator practical exam and existing articulating crane operator and rigger practical exams.
ICUEE, the International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition, will be held October 4-6, 2011 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky, with more than one million net square feet of the latest innovations and technology in equipment, products and services; hands-on working-equipment demonstrations; and in-depth industry education programs.
Demonstrations to foster safe working habits
In the new “lineman’s demo,” students from the Lineman Training Center at Somerset Community College will be at the show October 6 to demonstrate safety procedures and discuss the center. This workforce development initiative prepares apprentice-level students for electrical industry employment. It has one of the most expansive indoor training facilities and comprehensive curriculums in the nation.
The iP Safety Arena at ICUEE 2011 will offer four different safety demonstrations related to the co-located iP Safety Conference and Expo:
- Excavation Training – helping attendees gain a greater understanding of hazardous conditions working below ground and in confined spaces
- Live-Line Demonstration – highlighting the dangers of working with high voltages
- Chain Saw Safety – demonstrating safety and applications, including importance of proper PPE, reactive forces and hazard recognition, plus pole saw techniques and new innovations
- Fall Protection – Featuring climbing products in action with the opportunity to ask questions for safety solutions
The NCCCO Lift Safety Zone covers 10,000 square feet with a focus on training. NCCCO is dedicated to promoting safer working practices for those who work with and around cranes and related equipment. In addition to the practical exam demonstrations for riggers and digger derrick and articulating crane operators, NCCCO will provide details about all its certification programs for mobile, tower, overhead and articulating crane operators, signalpersons and riggers. NCCCO will also offer written and recertification exam administrations for those seeking to become certified or renew their certifications.
“Workplace safety is so important, and these demos help attendees more easily understand proper techniques and procedures to use while on the jobsite,” stated Melissa Magestro, ICUEE show director.
